Reba Lee Neal Shaffer, 99, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018.
She was born in Indore, Clay County, on August 11, 1918 to the late Alexander (Dodd) and Maggie Neal, who both preceded her in death. On January 29, 1938, she wed Howard Shaffer, to whom she was married for 36 years until his death in 1974. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Charles Shaffer, in 1975, and four siblings, Stella Neal Hemmings, Opal Neal Baker, Hollis Neal, and Roscoe Neal.
Reba is survived by her two sons, Henry Shaffer and his wife, Brenda of Tucson, Arizona, and David Shaffer and his wife Linda of Weston; four grandchildren, Dawn Shaffer Darnell of Cleveland, Ohio, Gretchen Shaffer Gibson and husband Bill of Morgantown, Christian Shaffer and wife Katie of Canton, Michigan, and Marcus Shaffer and wife Gail of Charleston; six great-grandchildren, Maggey and Ryan Gibson, Adalyn and Avery Shaffer and Wendy and Will Shaffer; along with many other extended family and friends.
After spending many years as a homemaker and director of the school lunch program in Widen, Reba and her family moved to Bluefield, where she worked for JC Penney. She later retired and moved to Marmet. In 2007, she moved to Weston to be closer to her family, and remained in Weston until her death. Reba was a member of the Baptist Church and sang in the choir in each of the places where she lived. Her faith was very important to her and she dedicated much of her time to her church and to studying the Bible.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 14, at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay. Burial followed in Clay Memorial Gardens..
