Port St. John—Mickey Young, 75, of Cocoa, FL went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2016 after an extended illness. He had a infectious sense of humor, loving heart, and unyielding dedication to his family. Mickey loved to hunt, garden, and most of all play practical jokes on others.
Mickey graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology. His proudest accomplishment was joining the Bendix Launch Support Division in 1967 at Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo/Saturn moon landing program. Mickey retired from E.I. Dupont Plant in Belle, WV and returned to Florida, where he spent his remaining years.
Mickey was a member of the First United Methodist Church of PSJ, a Mason of Lodge No. 97 in Clay, WV, a member of The Elks Lodge No. 2113. and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2073.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn Young; his favorite daughter, Michelle Young-Grantham; son-in-law, Bob Grantham; granddaughter, Brittany Rogers, all of Cocoa, Florida; his brother, Darrell “Sonny” Young of Syracuse, NY; and his many loving nieces and nephews.
Mickey was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lenna McCracken Young and Samuel E. Young; sister, Sharon Schoonover; and brother, Jerry Young.
Funeral Solutions of Cocoa, FL handled the arrangements for services on October 21, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of PSJ located at 1165 Fay Blvd., Cocoa. FL 32927. Visitation with the family was at 12:30 p.m. and services began at 1:00 p.m.
