Glen, WV – Margery Grace Young Nichols of Glen, West Virginia, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015. She departed this life at the age of 89. Three days later her beloved husband of 70 years, Fred Darrell Nichols, 92, joined her in their heavenly home. He passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Theirs was a true love story…
Margery was born November 6, 1925, in Clay County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late John W. Young and Daisy Grace Roe Young. She was a homemaker extraordinaire. For many years in Michigan, she was active in community service, the Girl Scouts Organization and Christian service within the Methodist Church Fellowship. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her sister, Olga Young Dalzell, and brother, Wilbur L. Young.
Fred was born June 3, 1922, in Bentree, West Virginia, the son of the late Bermon Edward Nichols and Amy Grace Dawson Nichols. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, European Theater, 94th Infantry Division of the United States Army. After retirement he was active in reunions of the 94th Division. He was retired from McLouth Steel Corporation with thirty years of service. Fred was faithful in Christian service with the United Methodist Church while living in Michigan for 37 years. After retirement he was a member of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmo E. Nichols and Cardell Nichols, and a sister, Mozelle N. Morris.
Fred and Margery are survived by their four daughters, Linda Grace Nichols (Rodney Scarberry) of Harrisville, Michigan, Karen Rae Nichols Blaharski (Louis Blaharski) of Carleton, Michigan, Jeannie Nichols Gilley (Jeff Morris) of Bomont, West Virginia, and Amy Claire Nichols of Glen, West Virginia; five grandsons and three granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment was in the Nichols Family Cemetery, Lizemores, West Virginia.
