Larry Leon Roop
Jodie, WV – Larry Leon Roop, 77, of Jodie, entered into rest June 25, 2015 after a short illness.
Born April 16, 1938 in Jodie, he was the son of the late Alfred and Lorena (Elswick) Roop. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife Billie Jo and a brother, Michael Earl.
He retired in 1992 as a mine foreman for Carl M. Geupel Construction/High Power Energy. He worked on the Summersville Dam beginning in 1961, he was a retired member of Labor Local 1353, was founder of the Gauley River Volunteer Fire Department, as well as its first captain. Larry was a member of the Jodie Baptist Church.
Larry is survived by his wife Linda Kay Roop of Jodie; sons, Larry David Roop of N.C., Terry Roop of Sylvester, Timothy Roop of Ansted, Jeremy Roop of Fenwick; daughter, Tammy Jones of Swiss, 18 grandchildren, 6 great-great children; brothers Gary Roop of Mendon, MI, Rex Roop of St. Albans, Ricky Roop of Jodie; sisters, Nancy Newhouse of Endicott City, MD, Sandy Snellings of Glen Allen, Va, and Robin Workman of Monroe, N.C.
Funeral service was held 11:00 A.M. Monday June 29, 2015 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister Daniel Sears officiating. Burial followed in Rich Creek Cemetery, Jodie.
