Lance Norman McCracken, 51, of Duck, WV, died peacefully at home on May 23, 2021, almost three weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; which he battled with courage and quiet dignity.
Although only 51 at the time of his death, Lance affected many people in his lifetime. He was deeply committed to friendship. During the last months of his life, Lance decided to cement his relationships with his dear friends and family.
Lance was born in Gassaway and grew up in Duck and was a 1988 graduate of Clay County High School. He is the first of four beloved children to Norman and Blanch McCracken. Besides his parents, Lance leaves behind his sister, Cindy Watkins (Dwayne); his brother, Benjamin (Jennifer); his sister Billie Jean Holman (Robert); four nieces; six nephews; two great nieces; one great nephew; and many other loving family members and friends.
Lance was a proud member of the Iron Workers Local 787, Parkersburg. In addition, he served in the US Army from 1988 to 1991 and in the Army National Guard. He was also a veteran of Desert Storm.
Friends and family were invited to visit Lance’s family at the Roach Funeral Home on Friday, May 28, 2021, from 11:00 AM to 1 PM, and a memorial service was held at 1 PM.
His final resting place was in the Old McCracken Family Cemetery with Military Rites.
Lance’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the health-care professionals at the VA Hospitals in Clarksburg and Pittsburgh and HospiceCare.
In lieu of flowers and donations, please just hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight, and use that hard earned money to spoil your children and grandchildren. That is what Lance would have wanted.
