Jerry Calvin Bird

Jerry Calvin Bird, 70, of Clay, left this world on Monday, July 24, 2017, and was reunited with his loved ones who preceded him to heaven; his parents, R.T. and Neva Bird; sisters, Kat Moore, Jean Evans and Lenora Durham; brother, Thurston Bird; and son, Wayne Shuler.

He was a retired coal miner.

Jerry was a loving husband to his wife, Nila Bird of Ivydale; father to Melissa O’Dell of Charleston, Eric Bird of Severn, Maryland, Lisa Ramsey of Arnoldsburg and Jeremy Bird of Ivydale; grandfather to seven grandchildren. He leaves behind brothers, Charlie and Thurman Bird both of Adonijah; sisters, Patty Jones and Jewell Elliott of Adonijah, Carol Sizemore of Buffalo New York and Evelyn Durham of Median, Ohio and their spouses; numerous nieces and nephews.

His life’s celebration was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church, Adonijah, with Ministers Chris Jones and Earl Elliott officiating.  Burial was in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay.

Friends gathered with family one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Kanawha Hospice Care for their support and loving care during this difficult time.
