Helen Marie Lucas

Spencer — Helen Marie Lucas, 75, of Spencer, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at home.

She was born January 18, 1942, in Widen, WV, a daughter of the late James Walden Wood and Onetta White Wood. She retired from the Roane County Board of Education having worked in the kitchen at the former Clover Grade School and Spencer Middle School. She attended the Keffer Methodist Church and was a member of the Spencer Tabernacle.

Helen is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leonard Calvin Lucas; her children, Lisa and Henry Lanham, Jr. of Romance, WV, and their children Amanda and Sarah; Rusty and Donna Lucas of Spencer and their children, Shane and Samantha; Kimberly and Mark Taylor of Spencer and their children Nathan and Shay; Debbie and Randy Richards of Spencer and their daughter Cassie; and Kava and Richard Elmore of Spencer and their children Gara, Rustan, Cole, and Alisha; and nine great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Donna Lawson, Charlotte Helmick, and Ronald Wood.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Danny Whited and Rev. Loren Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer. Visitation was Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
