Gordon “Butch” Moore, 72, of Lizemores, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

He fought a long battle with Parkinson and diabetes. Butch was a retired teacher, principal, and coach for the Clay County school system, with 31 years of service. He loved coaching, no matter what sport. He coached basketball, football and little league baseball.  He and Russ Harper started the football program at the Clay Middle School (Clay County Jr. High). He was an avid hunter and always enjoyed a round of golf.

Born on November 23, 1944, he was the son of the late Irving Moore and Clara Goff.

Butch is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Judy Moore; and his daughter, Tina “Boop” (Shane) Burnette of Beech Glen; son, G.W. (Kim) Moore of Cannelton; five adorable grandchildren who were the light of his life, Luke and Levi Burnette, Blake, Jackson and RaeLynn Moore; brother, Nelson (Kirbie) Moore of Charlottesville, VA.

Funeral service was held on 2 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, in Clay, with Minister John Osborne officiating. Burial will be in W.G. Reedy Cemetery.

Friends gathered with family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to Lizemores Ambulance Service 13175 Clay Hwy, Lizemores, WV, 25125.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.carlwilsonfuneralhome.com. Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Moore family.
