Garland “Bill” Morris

Dixie, WV – Our wonderful and beloved father, Garland “Bill” Morris, 92, of Dixie, WV passed away on August 23, 2013.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Gunners Mate in the US Navy. He retired from Cannelton Coal Company after 44 years.
He loved singing Southern Gospel music. He sang bass in several quartets and choirs during his lifetime. He enjoyed having people drop by to sing, talk and eat. He was instrumental in building several churches in different communities. He believed in hard work and making an honest living. He was generous to those in need and never failed to help others.
Born in Bentree, WV, on July 14, 1921, he was the son of the later Herbert and Allie O’Dell Morris. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Maysel Holcomb Morris; his brothers, Herbie and Audrey; his sisters, Evelyn Craze and Emilou Morris and one grandson, John Wayne Morris,
He is survived by his son, the Rev. Billy (Brenda) Morris of Dixie and his daughter, Carolyn (Carl) Morris of Mount Nebo; grandchildren, Eugene (Lois) Morris of Dixie, Carl A. Morris of Mount Nebo and Angelia (Joe) Lilly of Nicholasville, KY; great-grandchildren, Dustin (Anissa) Morris, Marc Morris, Caitlin (Robert) Boggs, Collene Morris and Nathaniel Morris; great-great-grandchildren, Adrian and Karlie Morris and Delana Boggs and one sister, Betty (Brownie) Kuntz of Beech Glen. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces, their spouses and their children.
Funeral service was 11 am Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Reverend Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
