Derek Lee Smith

Derek Lee Smith, 28, of Ivydale, WV passed away on December 30, 2022. He was born on January 20, 1994.

Derek loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his nephews- Wesley, Walker, and Wilder Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father James “Jamie” Franklin Smith; two grandpas, Henry “Bud” Smith and Bobby Lee Runion; aunt, Debra Smith Thorton; uncle, Randy Lee Runion; and cousins Molly Francis Smith and James “JW” William English III.

He is survived by his mother, Rita Faye, and stepfather, Virgil Mullins, of Georgia; his brother, Justin Scott Smith; three nephews, Wesley, Walker and Wilder; two grandmothers, Mary Jane Runion and Joyce Hickman Smith; aunts, Kathy English, Molly Mullins and Jennifer Fugate; two favorite cousins, Jessica and Kristie; and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Wilson Smith Funeral Home in Clay with Minister Matt Waskey officiating. Burial followed in the Runion Cemetery on Blue Knob Road, Maysel, WV. Visitation was one hour prior for friends and family.
