Indore, WV -Della Bird Truman, 98, Matriarch of the Truman/Bird Clan of Indore, passed away at the home of Billy and Sharon Truman of Indore, on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 after a long illness.
Born July 26, 1916, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Bird and Edna Morris Bird. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, the Rev. Wesley C. Truman, sons Roy, Ray and Carl; daughter, Anna Gibbs, grandsons, Clifford (Chip) Griffin, Delana (Tinker) Truman, great-grandson, Shawn Michael Roat, great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Morton; great-great- grandson Kaleb (Buddy) Gibbs and several brothers and sisters.
Della was homemaker, and raised 12 children. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, hunting ginseng, and hunted for her last deer at the age of 88. She especially enjoyed all the kids and grandkids for Sunday morning breakfasts. It was nothing to see 25 or 30 at her table at any given time.
Della is survived by her sons, Roma (Mickey) Truman of Harvey, LA, Billy (Sharon) Truman of Indore, Danny (Robin) Truman of Lizemores, Dana (Mary) Truman and Arthur (Tresea) Truman, both of Indore, Ercil (Bud) (Wanda) Sanders of Lizemores, daughters, Lenna Truman of Fulton, MO., Beatrice (Ron) Karr of Ashville, OH., Roberta Truman of Columbus, OH., and daughters-in-laws Ruth Truman of Indore and Penny Truman of Marshallville, OH., 32 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and sister Myrtle Ivey Truman of Uler.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Ronald and Connie Lay for all their weekly visits and kind words to our mother. They meant the world to her. We would also like to thank Dr. Bhirud and the staff of Montgomery General Hospital for the wonderful care while in the hospital, also to Trista Rush and the nursing staff at Hospice for their kind and loving care during her final days.
Funeral service was held 2:00 Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Community Missionary Baptist Church, Sycamore. Burial was in the Sanders Cemetery, Indore.
