Ramsey OBIT

Roanoke, VA – Cora Etta (Brady) Ramsey, 82, of US Highway 19 South Roanoke went to her Savior on Sunday, November 2, 2014 in United Hospital Center of Bridgeport following an extended illness. She was born September 4, 1932 in Clay County: daughter of the late John Jacob and Mary Ellen (Hughes) Brady. On March 3, 1950, she married Samuel Allen Ramsey, Sr, who survives and they were blessed with 64 years of marriage.

Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her four children: Jeanetta Mick of Roanoke, Roland (Sharon) Ramsey of Burnsville, Diana Somerville of Cross Lanes and S. A. “Sammy” (Jackie) Ramsey, Jr. of Prestonburg, KY. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are three sister-in-laws: Alma Rush of Burnsville, Alcie Brady of Palestine and Mae Brady of Frametown and beloved friends: Ray and Lou Ogden.

Mrs. Ramsey was the youngest of thirteen children and was the last survivor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven sisters: Samantha Lane, Gertie Ramsey, Onie Ramsey, Bernice Workman, Edith Spencer, Artie Johnson and Myrtie Hamsick, five  brothers: A. Daye Brady, John J. Brady, James Brady, Kenneth Brady and Hugh Jay Brady, and her son-in-law: Danny L. Mick.

Mrs. Ramsey was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a special aunt to many of her nieces and nephews: many of them spent summers and vacations under her loving care. She loved her flowers and wildlife. Her home cooking was a treat, especially her chicken dumplings. Her quick smile and willing ways made her a beloved patient at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. Many of the staff would check in on her even if she wasn’t on their duty list. Their care and love made her struggles easier.

When she lived in Carolina in Marion County, she and her husband sang in the church choir. She was a born again Christian and a great prayer warrior. She returned to Lewis County in 2004 and again joined the Oil Creek United Methodist Church.

Friends and family gathered at Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 2-8 p.mn. A Celebration of thankfulness in honor of her life was held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the Oil Creek United Methodist Church of Roanoke with Pastors Lonnie Ramsey and Bob Mitchell officiating. Interment was in the Peterson Cemetery, near the church.

Following services, a fellowship meal was held at the Orlando Charge Fellowship Hall. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Cora Etta Ramsey may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.

Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston is honored and privileged to serve the family of Cora Etta Ramsey.
