Alta — Charlotte Markle Johnson, 76, of Alta, WV, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a long battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Born November 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Norvel and Maysel (Mullins) Markle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Dortha Roop (who was like her second mom); and four brothers, William “Bill,” Robert “Wink,” Boyd and Broadus Markle.

Charlotte is survived by her loving husband, George “Jink” Johnson; sister, Barbara Truman; daughter, Brenda Johnson Ray, her husband, John and their children Taylor and Sam (who were the stars in Charlotte’s eyes); and son, George “Danny” Johnson.

Charlotte had so many family and friends who touched her life, but she wanted to make special mention of cousin, Linda Osborne, and sister-in-law, Loreine Markle, who she thought of and loved like sisters; friend, Deanna Clonch; and her neighbors, Sherman and Brenda Johnson.

A private burial was held for the family and close friends on Friday, May 19,  at Kanawha Valley Memorial with son, George “Danny” Johnson residing over the service. Immediately following the family had a memorial service at the Bell Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Shane Wynn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Memory of Charlotte to Bell Creek Baptist Church, the Hubbard Hospice House 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311, or the charity of your choosing.

On-line condolences may be sent to the family at www.carlwilsonfuneralhome.com

Pennington Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Johnson Family.
