Charles William Sizemore

Charles William Sizemore, 89, formerly of Clay County, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023. He passed peacefully at his daughter Pam Naylor’s home in Gold Canyon, Arizona,  Born on, March 20, 1934,  he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elinor “Ilene” Moore Sizemore; granddaughter, Tracie Jan Naylor; parents Mark Sizemore and Ruth Edwards Sizemore; brother, Gordan Sizemore, sister, Geneva Sizemore; foster parents, William “Bill” Sizemore and Molly “Opal” Morton Sizemore; foster brothers and sisters; William “Billy” Sizemore, Olive “Rose” Sizemore Jones, Hayden “Skip” Sizemore, Margaret Opal Sizemore Belaire, Jerry Ryan Sizemore.

He is survived by his children; Pamela Sizemore Naylor (Kevin), Priscilla Sizemore Steele (David), Gregory Sizemore (Cheryl); grandchildren, Sara Naylor, Ryan Steele, Michelle Steele Lorts (Joseph),  Kathy Sizemore, Nicole Sizemore Carson (Kevin), Scott Sizemore; great granddaughters Emilia Christine “Emi” Carson and Zelda Isabelle  “Izzie”; sister, Mildred Sizemore Maynard;  foster brothers; Austin Sizemore (Joyce); Henry Sizemore (Sandy), Mitchel Sizemore (Kathy), Ray Sizemore (Ellen); brother in law, John Moore (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict in Germany on the Russian border as a tank commander.  He was a member of the United Mine Workers Local 8843.  After 44 years of service, he retired from the Cannelton Coal Company in 1980.  He was a devoted member and previous Trustee of the Ida Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and neighbor.  His kind heart, gentleness and sense of humor will truly be missed.

A memorial service for both Charles and Ilene planned for June 22, 2024, at 11:00 am at Ida Missionary Baptist Church Bentree, West Virginia.  Their ashes will be buried at the Ida Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the Ida Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8, Lizemores, WV 25125.
