Byrl D. Nelson, 93, of Medina Township, Ohio passed away at his home Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Byrl was born April 15, 1930 in Adair, West Virginia to the late Herman and Chessie (Mullins) Nelson. Byrl had resided in Valley City for many years prior to moving to Medina Township.

He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and received a bronze star. Byrl was a retired machinist from General Motors, Brook Park. After retiring, he served as the bee inspector for Medina County. He was an avid beekeeper and enjoyed selling his honey at the local Farmer’s Market.

He was a true outdoorsman and loved working in his garden.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Lutheria (Rhodes); his daughters Cyndi (Ron) Oney and Norma (Dave) Jesse; grandchildren Jonathan (Andrea) and Michael Oney, Zachary Jesse and Erin (Alex) Curran; great-grandchildren Evelyn Marcin, Ellington Oney; and a great granddaughter, Curran, arriving in October. He is also survived by sisters Myrl Bailey and Nancy Lambey, and a brother, Jerry Nelson (Verneda), and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susie, and his siblings Madeline Boggs, Reva Snodgrass, Virgil Nelson, Dorothy Keener, Catherine Bargar, and Glada Lanham.

A graveside service was held at the Nelson Family Farm Cemetery in Clay, on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, where visitation was from 12 noon to 1:00 pm with service immediately following.
