Barbara Sue Simmons Bowden

Barbara Sue Simmons Bowden, 73, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Friday, November 25, 2022, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Funeral services were held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. David Ash officiating. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Bowden was born July 13, 1949, in Clay, West Virginia, to the late Burley & Madeline Butcher Simmons. She worked as a paraprofessional in the Ben Hill County School System. She loved to cook and attended Salem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Scott Bowden of Ben Hill County; son, William D. Bowden of Vancouver, Washington; daughter, Tonya & Clarence Sauers of Benton, Arkansas; two grandchildren: Madison Sauers and Barrett Sauers; three step-grandchildren; and siblings: Joyce Legg of Clay, West Virginia, Brenda Douglas of Ivydale, West Virginia, James Simmons of Clay, West Virginia; and Paul Butcher of Montgomery, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
