Arthur E. Smith

Arthur E. “Mule Skinner” Smith, 79, of Harrison, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Born January 4, 1938, in Dundon, Clay County, he was the son of the late Manuel and Dorothy (Hamrick) Smith.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leon and Delmas Smith and three sisters, Freda Smith, Derma Cottrell and Derma Weise.

He was a coal miner for 21 years and a retired bus driver for Clay County Schools. He attended Peoples Community Church.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Cathy Smith of Harrison; sons, Arthur (Heather) Smith II of Dog Run, Jason (Lena) Smith of Harrison; daughters, Arlene (Roger) McMillion   of Nettie, Donna (Wadie) Rose of Harrison, Lesley (Dwayne) of Hamrick of Whetstone, Amanda (James) Greathouse of Dille and Abigail Smith of Harrison; sixteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Burl, Billy, Jimmy, Kenneth and Dencil Smith, Bucky and Buddy Weese; sisters, Thelma Nottingham, Bobbie Jo Smith and Krissy Smith.

Funeral service will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22 at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Freddy Schoolcraft officiating.  Burial will be in Smith Cemetery, Harrison.

Friends may gather with family 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be sent to the family www.carlwilsonfuneralhome.com
