Mr. Alpheus Jay “AJ” Sears, age 69 of Tennille, passed away on June 30, 2020 at Autumn Lane Health and Rehabilitation in Gray. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sears was held on July 6, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the May & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Andy Yates officiating.

Mr. Sears was born November 13, 1950 in Clay, West Virginia to the late Alpheus Lee Sears and the late Zola Triplett. He was an industrial maintenance supervisor working at various paper mills all throughout the country for most of his life. Upon his retirement, A.J. possessed a passion for gardening. One of his greatest loves in life was caring for his two dogs, Butterball and Rosebud. A.J. also loved grilling sausages for friends and neighbors.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Earlene Lane Sears; a daughter, Trisha Lefler of Cumming; a son, Darron Sears and his wife Sonja of Roddy; step-children, Donna Parker and her husband Ollie of Wrightsville, Glenn Archer and his wife Lisa of Tennille, and Amy Dees and her husband Cliff of Gray; grandchildren, Adam Rowland, Jayna Rowland, Mallory Sears, and Landen Sears; siblings, Larry Sears and his wife Kathy, Tim Sears, and Mike Sears and his wife Judy, all of West Virginia; and many loving step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 100, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148, or a charity of your choice.

May and Smith Funeral Directors has charge of these arrangements. www.mayandsmithfuneraldirectors.com
