We Get Letters

First of all I am the grandmother of Bruce E Bird Jr., known as B.J. He was sentenced to 100 years January 29. He was never in trouble as a juvenile. I called Wadell and told him that. As for no one speaking up or showing emotion, I couldn’t hear what the sentence was or you can believe I would have spoken up and talked clear.
B.J’s mother broke down and cried out loud. I ask Mike Asbury what the sentence was in the hall, he is who told me. This is the 3rd arrest B.J ever had. He’s not a bad person. It’s the drugs that destroys people and families.
My grandsons ask me to not say anything. It could put me in danger. But the sentence is horrible. It has torn me to the bottom of my heart and soul. If there’s any compassion in the court system, please reconsider this awful sentence. I never heard of a sentence in Clay County for that much. The remark about Isaiah Murphy being born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I am sure that spoon has been empty many times. When his grandmother couldn’t be there for him. I cooked for him many times he came to my house. I got mad at him sometimes but never was mean to him.
My heart aches for her, I know how she hurts. She’s always been good to me. I never had much and worked hard all my life. But money can’t buy love. I believe in freedom of speech, and the truth will stand. I know gossip sells papers. But when hurtful things is in the paper that is sometimes lies. I got mad. I am proud of Charlie for his defending his daughter, she’s a special lady for my opinion. I for one will miss her. Wadell will meet his match one of these days. If nothing else for his name calling.

Sincerely,
B.J’s grandmother,
Nona E Stephenson Carte
