Charles Wayne Young, 78, WV, died November 27th, 2015 at home after a series of strokes. Born December 20, 1936 in Clendenin, WV, son of Carl B. and Lela White Young deceased.
He was educated in Clay County public schools and a graduate of CCHS, class of 1956. In high school, he learned fine woodworking that was used all of his life.
His genius was discovered at age 4, when he began carving sculptures in soap, moving on to drawing and model airplanes. He received a head injury in 3rd grade causing his vision and reading abilities to be affected, however he overcome this and went on to be a unique man of great and many talents.
He taught himself to drive at age 11. That summer he was working cabling logs up the mountain for his dad’s lumber operation. Charles’ talent for heavy equipment, master welding, and machinist using old school methods were only few of this talents. He could repair anything he chose to in his shop at Bomont, WV.
“Charlie” as he was called by his many friends, if you were lucky, he would be your loyal friend for life.
He was the only boy of 5 children, but was not spoiled, but very much loved. As young children, sister Sybil and “Jannyrie” as he called her played together in Porter creek, picked huckleberries and walked to the old Bomont school. Survived by his wife, Shirley Love Young, son Richard, “Rick”, and wife Mary Ann, Sister Janice Y. Frame (Delner) of Charlottesville, VA. A devoted niece, Andrea McClure Anderson, great nephew Matt Anderson of Bomont; Other nieces, Carol Lynn Daily, Elaine S. Detamore, Susan S. Jordan, Laura F. Matthews; Nephews include C.E. “Dusty” McClure and Timothy Frame; A host of great and great, great, nieces and nephews; Shirley’s family Jim and Ron Love, Delores Davis, Linda Scott, and Dixie Jarvis; Predeceased by Sisters Eloise Young Cross, Evelyn Young Smith and Sybil Young McClure.
Charles was a very private person, at his request there was no service held for his departure from this earth. Go rest high in the mountains, your work on earth is over, Sleep in eternal peace
