BOE Talks Budgets
On October 12, 2015, a Board of Education Meeting was held at the old Annex building. Donald L. Corwell was approved for employment as substitute teacher for the 2015-2016 school years. Sandy Jones’ (Cook II) retirement/ resignation at Clay Middle School will go in effect immediately. In place of Sandy Jones’ former position Jo Carver has been approved to step from Cook III to Cook II position. Kenneth Smith will be transferred from custodian at CCHS to custodian at Big Otter Elementary in Delbert Ratliff’s former position.
Clay County superintendent, Kenneth Tanner stated that Governor Tomblin has issued statewide budget cuts. For Clay County schools, this means that some expenditures will be cut; specifics are unknown at this point in time. Joe Paxton says that the state will mandate budget cuts for the next 3-5 years.
On a positive note, the Food Program has allowed snacks beginning next Tuesday, October 20th, 2015. The state gave permission to serve after-school snacks. Clay County is an at-risk county, so snacks will be served county-wide for Pre-School and Kindergarten at the last 30 minutes of the day. The state will reimburse the school for the snack program.
Krechella Evans has been approved as Girls Basketball coach at Clay Middle School. Dylan Vaughan has been employed as a Kindergarten teacher at Clay Elementary School, in Heather White’s former position. Eric Legg and Frankie Kerr have been approved as after school teachers for CMS one evening per week. J.B. Butcher, Britni Ramsey, Tracy Wayne, Kathi Linkinoggor have also been employed as after school teachers for Clay Elementary and this will be two evenings per week. The following teachers have also been approved and employed for CCHS as after school teachers; Virginia McCormick, Katelyn Thomas, Luella Dancy, Allen Tanner (Substitute), Tara Tanner (Substitute), and Courtnie Morris (Substitute).
Barry Payton’s resignation was approved by Beth Cercone and seconded by David Pierson.
