Rochester, NY – Decima “Jean” (Boggs) Baker, 87, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2015 with her loved ones by her side in Rochester, NY. She was born October 26, 1927 at Big Otter, WV to the late Walter Edgar and Minnie Olive (Delaney) Boggs. She was the widow of Harry Lee Baker, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Baker leaves behind her two daughters: S. Gail Shreiner (Terry L.) of Great Mills, MD and Donna Loch Baker of Big Otter, WV.
Jean is survived by her two sisters and a brother: Leoma (Boggs) Short, widow of Ira Short of Athens, WV; Louetta (Boggs) Fields (Harald) of Big Otter, WV and Walter Alan Boggs (Leanna) of Athens, OH. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Darrell Delaney Boggs of Big Otter, WV and James Martin Boggs (Patricia) of Elyria, OH.
Jean’s grandchildren include: Lori (Miller) Short (Drexel) of Naples, FL; Melissa Miller-Ipsan (Matthew) of Pelham, AL; Angela (Butts) Wasserman (Jason) of Rochester, NY; Terry L. Shreiner, Jr. (Kristen) of Owings, MD. Jean’s step-grandchildren include: Donald Shreiner of Kemah, TX; and Tina (Shreiner) Blalock (Gary) of Pearland, TX;
Jean’s great-grandchildren are: Danielle R. Burris (deceased) of Channelview, TX; Christina Moore of Pearland, TX; Alex and Trent Wasserman of Rochester NY, Trace Short of Naples, FL, Olivia Ipsan of Birmingham, AL; Chase, Karly, and Lacey Shreiner of Owings, MD. Jean is also survived by five step great-grandchildren. They are: Alexandria Manzanares, Karissa Rickman, Kasey, Kaitlyn, and Brice Shreiner and four step great-great grandchild all of Texas.
Jean was 87 years old when she went home to be with our Lord and the rest of our family that have already made life’s greatest journey. She will be dearly missed by those of us left behind.
Jean was indeed a special woman and a credit to the Boggs’ family. She was an avid reader, skilled published poet and the writer of some children’s storybooks that may yet find themselves in print. She also was a retired educator at Frametown Elementary School in Braxton County. WV and had previously taught in Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral service was held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay. Jean was a native of West Virginia, born and raised at Big Otter and will find her final resting place at the Boggs Cemetery in Big Otter (Exit 40, I 79).
