Westover, WV – Bernard Eugene Taylor, age 89, of Westover, passed away, Thursday January 22, 2015 with his family by his side. Gene was born in Charleston, WV on September 1, 1925, a son of the late Cecil and Thelma Foreman Taylor.

Gene proudly served his country from 1943-1946 in the Army Air Corps serving in the Pacific Islands, Guam, and the Philippines during World War II. He later worked as a coal mine engineer and federal mine inspector. In Bernard’s spare time, he enjoyed carpentry work, music, and sports; especially golf.

Gene received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and helped build the Faith Baptist Church building.

Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, whom he married on November 20, 1948, Kathryn Elliott Taylor; son; Elliott Steven Taylor and wife Carol of Salem, WV; daughter, Dora June Taylor Azmus and husband Scott of Kenosha, WI; sons, , David Elliott Taylor and wife Billie Jo of Morgantown; and Samuel Elliott Taylor of Kenosha, WI; sisters-in-law, June Ford of Columbus, OH and Penny Taylor of Chloe, WV; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers; James Taylor, Joseph Taylor, and Bob Taylor and his wife Janice Taylor.

Friends gathered at McCulla Funeral Home on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 3 to 6 PM. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Treg Spicer. Burial followed at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV with full military honors. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.McCulla.com
