The CCHS cross-country team hosted the Elk River Trail Race last week as the second Clay County run of the season. Here, both the boys’ and girls’ teams from CCHS and CCMS competed for times before their final meets of the season.
The CCHS girls were set to run first, and there were high hopes that there would be some record times since some of the best competed in the event. With 9th grader Marissa Atha leading the way for the girls, the team ran seemingly effortlessly as most of the girls placed in the top ten with Marissa taking the first-place coin with a time of 19:34.4. Abigail Grandon placed 4th and Sophia Berberich placed 5th. CCHS boys were up next, and Isiah Woods placed 4th and Toby Yeager placed 6th. CCMS girls ran in the third event, and Danae Stricker placed 5th. CCMS boys closed out the event, and Holden Reed proved once again he will be a contender in any race, placing 1st with a time of 10:39.0. The season is winding down for the cross-country teams with the LKC championship on October 15th and Regionals on October 24th. The last runs for the CCMS teams are at Ravenswood on October 17th. Come out and support the teams as they close out the season.
