The Primary Election, held on May 12, saw an overall statewide voter turnout of 250,755 registered voters who cast ballots for the election, or 21% voter participation. That includes 67,361 who voted early in-person from April 29 to May 9, as well as 3,533 voters who participated by absentee ballot prior to Election Day.
Clay County saw a 21.03% voter turnout with 1,071 ballots cast out of 5,092 registered voters. Of those voters, 516 were republican, 469 democratic, and 86 non-partisan. The unofficial totals are as follows.
County Commission:
Trey Corwell defeated Donna Bird Salisbury in the republican primary with 55.56% of the vote. Corwell will face democrat Greg Fitzwater on the November ballot, who ran unopposed in the primary for the seat.
Board of Education:
With three seats on the ballot, all three candidates won seats on the BOE: Phoebe Nichols with 651 votes, Lolita Nutter with 628 votes, and Nicole Brooke Jones with 590 votes.
Conservation District Supervisor:
Eric Lee Grandon, who ran unopposed, earned 706 votes.
County Executive Committees:
The republican winner for County Executive Committee (Male, District C) was David K. King, who ran unopposed.
The democrat winner for County Executive Committee (Female, District A) was Pam Corey, who also ran unopposed.
The democrat winner of the County Executive Committee (Male, District A) was unopposed candidate Keith Lahti. The two democrat winners for the County Executive Committee (Female, District C) were Amanda Shelton with 71 votes and Connie Kinder with 51 votes.
Statewide Republican primary results:
-U.S. Senator: Shelley Moore Capito (incumbent) defeated Tom Willis, Bryan McKinney, David Purkey, Alexander Gaaserud, and Janet McNulty.
-U.S. House, 1st District: Carol Miller (incumbent) defeated Larry Jackson.
-State Senator, 8th Senatorial District: Lance Wheeler defeated T. Kevan Bartlett and Steven Carder Eshenaur.
-House of Delegates, 62nd District: Roger Hanshaw ran unopposed.
-State Executive Committee, Female, 8th District: Erica Moore and Katherine McCormick won against Jeanette Atkinson and Kristen King.
-State Executive Committee, Male, 8th District: T. Kevan Bartlett and Andy Shamblin won against Steven Carder Eshenaur, Martin Atkinson, and Randy Halstead.

-U.S. Senator: Rachel Fetty Anderson defeated Jeffrey Kessler, Zachary Shrewsberry, Rio Phillips, and Thornton Cooper.
-U.S. House, 1st District: Britta “Brit” Aguirre defeated Vince George.
-State Senator, 8th Senatorial District: Kim Hundley ran unopposed.
-House of Delegates: 62nd District: Samantha Tanner-Lester ran unopposed.
-State Executive Committee, Female, 8th District: Amanda Estep-Burton and Virginia “Ginny” Moles won against Amanda Shelton.
-State Executive Committee, Male, 8th District: Mike Pushkin and Jim Kerrigan won seats against Jacob Hively, Leif Olson, G. Russell Rollyson, and Keith Lahti.

Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Division 1: H.L. “Kirk” Kirkpatrick defeated Todd Kirby, Gerald Titus (incumbent), Laura Faircloth, and Martin Sheehan.
Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Division 2: Bill Flanigan defeated Tom Ewing (incumbent).
Judge of the Intermediate Court of Appeals: Jim Douglas defeated Dan Greear (incumbent).
