My deepest apologies for naming James D. “Jimmy’ Mullins as Jimmy Miller a week ago in my Spotlight. Typically I audio-record all my conversations with those I do stories about. I keep those recordings for years. That way I don’t fear misquoting someone. I also take more photos than I can use and write a plethora of notes. But Jimmy was the exception. Due to cancer that caused him to lose his larynx we had to do something different. I made up a five page questionnaire that Jimmy took two days to fill out. And right there at the top was his full name.
Again, this was my fault. It’s not the hand writing, it was my own faulty eyesight.
I have been in the past accused of being a crusader. I must admit my goal was to bring some needed attention to not only that cancer, but the next he is suffering with now. If any Marine deserves funding from the Camp Lejeune Contaminated Water relief fund, it is Jimmy.
Again, I am entirely at fault here for the misnaming, which only goes to prove that I am indeed human and capable of making grievous mistakes.
It has been my joy to bring to you stories of Clay County personalities that have not only been a joy to meet but to introduce them to you. With your permission I will continue to do so. Just a bit more carefully.
Jimmy Mullins, my apologies, and I hope you finally get the justice the Marine Corp owes to you.
