Senior Night held for the Lady Panthers

It has been a tough week for sports in this county.  Winter time clashed with spring for a couple of days last week and sent the snow to the underworld.   The rain hit for a day and reminded us that rain can do nearly as much damage as snow.  In doing so, people were left to dig out and wonder why there were sink holes in places that they have never been.   The warm spell is bringing out spring fever and the battle of the fronts, leaving the general population on edge.   However, there were games being played on the courts at CCHS and sports seemed to be back to normal.  The long layoff from the cold spell kind of put a damper on the team’s ability to stay on point.

The Lady Panthers squared off against Braxton, Roane and Calhoun.   The Lady Panthers are having a tough time getting wins this season.  It would seem that they struggling with turnovers and not getting the ball to burn the net.   Lady Panthers fell to Braxton 17-46. In their next game, the Lady Panthers were bested by the Lady Raiders 17 -49.  Against Calhoun, the Lady Panthers looked a little more like they were ready to play some ball.  They kicked their offense in the pants and started getting some good looks at the hoop as the defense stepped up and was getting some turnovers.  However, they couldn’t match buckets with the Lady Red Devils and lost 31-45.  The Lady Panthers will be on a seven game road stretch and will return home on February 21st against Buffalo.

The Panthers also had a roller coaster week while playing a tough line up but managed a win out of the three games they played.  Braxton was up first and came out hitting home runs on the back board and scored a whopping 30 points in the third period. At the end of it all, the Panthers fell 40-70 to the Eagles. With the bad taste of losing, the Panthers set up a basketball camp on the Webster court and won that game 52-39.  Man High School was up next as the Panthers hit the road.  The Panthers led early as they came out scoring a jaw dropping 21 points in the first period.  They couldn’t retain their glory in the next three periods as Man slowly crept up and won the game 65-52.  It was a good game regardless of the loss.

Man will return to play the Panthers at the Panther den, and it should be a good grudge match.
