The Mustangs have gone into the CCMS history books with a perfect season. The boys made it happen by defeating Beckley Christian on Friday night. It was a tough road against some of the toughest opponents middle schools can put on the diamond. They played as a team, won as a team and have made Clay County history. No doubt, ballads will probably be written on this season, it will be talked about around campfires. Hollywood couldn’t have scripted a better final game than the one played Friday night. Ominous dark clouds filled the horizon as the game began, and this was soon followed by high winds and rain. Umbrellas and rain suits were donned, and the game continued. It was epic, as they say, with rain pouring down as each player gritted their teeth and played on as if this would be their last game. The rain only made it better. Thomas Haverty had the distinct pleasure of leading the Mustangs in their final game. He took the mound and, with the rain and wind against him, threw strike after strike against all the odds. The Mustang defense let nothing by and played their way into baseball history. There isn’t enough that can be said about this team that would help a commoner understand the true impact of this season. They are a fine bunch of boys who had each other’s backs. From JV to Varsity, they stood their ground for each other and that is why they are a championship team. Each player on the team played a part in their success. Also deserving a pat on the back is head Coach Frank Clemans along with Assistant Coach Jeffrey Krauklis. These coaches led this team to be the best they could be and instilled in them a desire to win and to be focused. These traits will help them succeed in whatever their lives lead them to. Once again congratulations to the Mustangs and the coaches. It was an awesome year.
