For decades people have known that the first Sunday in May signals the annual ramp dinner at H.E. White Elementary. Volunteers arrive at the school near day break and start the hustle and bustle of preparing meals for hundreds of people. As the pungent smell of ramps fills the air, a line begins to form outside the building as people from all around travel to this feast to enjoy the spring treasure of mountain onions, beans and fried potatoes.
This tradition has lasted forty-five years and has brought together many friends and families, created many memories and been a very successful fundraiser for the students of H.E. White Elementary. Special thanks to all of the volunteers, without them the dinner would not be possible.
