Ivydale – Jessie Childers, 85, of Ivydale, formerly of Indore, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
Born April 6, 1928 in Leatherwood, he was the son of the late John and Nellie (Dobbins) Childers, in addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, son, Roger Childers, grandson, Jon Eric Childers and son-in- law Bill Thoms, brothers, Earl Graham, Bill Graham, Frank Childers, Don Childers and Arthur Childers, sisters, Effie Williams, Pearl Mullins and Liddy Nichols.
He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in Japan; he retired from the coal mines, loved the outdoors, hiking, hunting, gardening and woodworking. During his lifetime he was blessed with wonderful neighbors, was a member of the Big Sycamore Baptist Church. He was loved by all that knew him and had a very strong belief in God.
Jessie is survived by his daughters, Donetta and husband David Looney of Tupelo, Miss., Jenetta Thoms of Sistersville, Joetta and her husband Billy Joe Linville of Charleston; and son, Timmy and his wife Sandi Childers of Heaters, daughter-in-law Marilyn Childers of Fairmont ,several grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service were held on March 30, 2014 at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, with Military Graveside Rites, conducted by the VFW Post 4419.
