Dundon was buzzing last week as the CCHS cross country team ran their legs off at the LKC Championships held for the first time in Clay County. The Cross Country team has grown in the last few years and has become a formidable bunch of runners. CCHS has begun a tradition in cross country and that is to make it to the state championships, not just individually but also as a team. There is an old saying that nothing turns up in this world until someone turns it up. Cross Country is one of those endurance sports that demands every ounce of determination and discipline a runner can muster from start to finish, and CCHS has some good ones. This Lady Panther team, as well as the boys’ team, gets stronger as each year passes. Sixteen teams flowed into Dundon’s valley from all over the state to compete. A win here among the top runners in the state would be like wining a state championship. The boys were up first and it would prove to be a tough run to get into the top 10. Sawyer Dobbins was the top runner for Clay and also broke the school record finishing with a blistering pace and a time of 16:52.6. With this run he earned the first team all conference honors. Dobbins also took first in the Shady Spring invitational with a time of 17:47.24 and is ranked 18th in the state. The girls were up next, and Cheyanne Taylor was first across the line for the Lady Panther team with a time of 24:11.6.
The CWVAC championships for the middle schools took place in Ravenswood on October 7th. Marissa Atha placed 3rd in the event for the Lady Mustangs team, and McKinley Mahan placed 9th. Both girls were awarded First Team All Conference. Congratulations to all those who took home All Conference.
