Jackie Lee Harvey, 79, of Raleigh, NC, went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2023. He was born February 11, 1944, in Clay County to the late Fred Seldon and Blanche Maude Harvey.
Jack graduated from Nichols County High School and received a Bachelors in Math from the West Virginia Institute of Technology. He went on to do pioneering work in Information Technology with the Boeing Corporation for the Saturn V rocket program and later with the U.S. Army at Fort Lee, VA, during the Vietnam War. Jack continued his career in IT with several government and private organizations until his retirement in 2010.
In his personal life, Jack was active in a wide variety of interests including playing golf, coaching baseball, gardening, and exploring the coast of North Carolina. Jack was fascinated by history, and he enjoyed it through reading, reenacting, and travel. Jack had a lifelong love of animals, adopting many pets along the way. He was an active member of Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh, having served as teacher, deacon and mission leader.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Christina Jean Harvey of Raleigh, NC; his son, Nick (Meredith) Harvey of Asheville, NC; and his daughter, Amanda (Doug) Bordeaux of Archer Lodge, NC. He adored his four grandchildren, Benjamin Harvey, Myra Harvey, Tyler Bordeaux, and Christian Bordeaux, and they adored him.
Jack is survived by his sister Mona Gaynell Boles, his brothers Fred Harvey (Janet) and John Harvey (Roxanne), his sister-in-law Betty Harvey, his brother-in-law Jim Nichols, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on July 8, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dixie, WV. The family will receive visitors at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local church or charity of your choice.
