The Clay County Commission met Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the commission room of the Clay County courthouse. The approval of the minutes, bills, purchase orders, and assessments began the agenda. Approval of budget revisions and settlements of estates followed.
Next the Commission voted to advertise to accept bids for the courthouse ADA restroom renovation project. This project includes the remodeling of the four bathrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs, in the courthouse. A mandatory pre-bid meeting for the project will be held on March 26 at 10:00 am. The deadline for bids to be received for the bathroom renovation project will be April 9 at 10:00 am.
Under recommendation of the State Tax Department, the Commission voted to correct the 2013 appraisal value for two tracts of land owned by QS Coal Company; a 1,683 acre tract of land was modified from a value of $209,918 to $1,446,713. Another tract of 1,064 acres was adjusted from $ 634,467 to a recommended $951,913 property value.
