Birch River, WV – James Dancy, 78, of Birch River went home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2014 at his residence.
He was born January 1, 1936 in Strange Creek, WV the son of the late James Franklin & Virgie Duffield Dancy.
James was a retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company, member of Powells Mt. Baptist Church, an Army Veteran, 30 year member of the UMWA, past Chief for Birch River Vol. Fire Dept., EMT volunteer for Nicholas County Ambulance Authority, baseball coach for Birch River Little League, an avid farmer and hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Charlotte Ruth Boyce Dancy.
James is survived by his son, James Junior Dancy & wife Luella of Birch River, daughter, Rachel Wyre of Birch River, brothers, Curt Dancy of Booneville, NC, Charles Dancy of Dille, Wayne Dancy of Strange Creek, sister, Dorothy Mae Brady of Frametown, grandchildren, Jeremy Dancy (Alisha), Charlie Wyre (Jessica), Joshua Dancy, Jeff Dancy, Theresa Rundgren, Rob Carr, Chris Wyre, Bryan Carr, great grandson, Jordan Dancy.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday February 8, 2014 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Linn Schiefer and Rev. Phillip Channel officiating. Burial followed at Butcher-Dancy Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by American Legion Post #33, Sutton. Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at the funeral home.
