The terrible flood of June 2016 destroyed many homes and lives in our beloved county. Some folks recovered quickly while others are still struggling to build homes. We have witnessed droves of volunteers from far away who settled into our area for weeks at a time to help flood victims. Amid the sea of big-hearted helpers came local volunteers who shined a little brighter.
Rhonda McDonald, committee chairperson of the Greater Clay Long-Term Recovery Committee, worked diligently to provide victims with basic household goods, clothing, food, and even homes. She helped children receive Christmas gifts through specific programs.
A person who was directly helped by McDonald stated, “Rhonda made sure we all stayed warm in the cold.” With sustained freezing temperatures, those words are a testament in itself. McDonald has been described as an awesome mother and wife, a common-sense-type-of-gal, tough as nails, and a go getter. Congratulations to McDonald on being the CCBDA’s Citizen of the Month for January 2017. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed! It is a great way to bring in the New Year!
