Imagine hundreds of base jumpers, 200 vendors, weddings and the brave being thrown from 876 feet above the water and that was just a sample of bridge day. The festival is the only closing of the bridge in the entire year. Spectators clamored to eat the wonderful funnel cakes and see daring jumps on the second largest single span steel arch in the Western Hemisphere. Local merchants reaped the benefits of the extra business. “You get to meet your customers in their natural habits and not general marketing ploys,” Andrew Murphy, of Mountain Khakis, said. “You actually get to learn what they like to do.”
Participants came from around the globe trekking eight countries and over 40 states.
