The Braxton/Clay Master Gardener’s Association is having an educational meeting on Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Ag-Ed classroom at Braxton County High School at 6 p.m.
Master Gardener Suzie Legg and Pastor Dennis Legg will present information on their volunteer work in Haiti. Bring seeds, gardening gloves and small hand tools to donate to Eben Ezer Farm in Haiti. Everyone is welcome – bring a friend. The Master Gardeners will also have a bake sale. If school is canceled due to weather, so is the meeting. There will be an evening sewing class at Clay County High School starting Jan. 10, 2017. The class will run from 6:30-8 p.m. in the CTE Building. For more information or to register, contact instructor Mintie Fulks at 587-4925. There is limited space available.
The 2017 WVU Garden Calendars have arrived and are available at the Clay County Courthouse in the county clerk’s office, the sheriff’s office and the WVU Extension office. This year’s theme is “Herb Appeal” and contains growing information on herbs as well as recipes. There is no charge for the calendar.
The Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) is a supplemental foods program for pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women, infants and children, under the age of five. WIC provides supplemental foods and nutrition education to qualifying participants. To apply for the WIC program or to receive more information call: 304-587-2323. January schedule: The Clay County WIC Office located at 452 Main Street in Clay is open to serve the public every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The office will be closed January 2 in observance of New Years Day and January 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
Monday after-school tutoring takes place every Monday at the Lizemores Church of the Nazarene from 4-6 p.m. Students who need help with homework or extra skills practice can come by Lizemores Nazarene and be assisted by teachers and other volunteers. A light snack will be served. Please ensure that all participating students have something to work on.

Meeting will be held in the Clay County Courthouse Commission Room. Economic Development Committee meets at 4 p.m. and board of directors meets at 6 p.m.
