The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood to support cancer patients and other patients during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. More than 1.6 million new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S. this year and 246,600 of them will be invasive breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Cancer patients may need blood products during chemotherapy, surgery or treatment for complications.  The Red Cross must collect about 14,000 blood donations every day to help patients, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood products for those needing transfusions. Donors of all blood types are needed. Donors may give blood in Gassaway in Braxton County at Braxton Co. Memorial Hospital, 100 Hoylman Drive, on Oct. 18 from 12-5:30 p.m.

Walk for Women … Take a Step Against Breast Cancer will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Clay County High School.  Every dollar benefits the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Fund. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. For more information call 304-587-4269.

The Clay County Health Department Health and Wellness Acute Care Services kick-off health fair will be held on Monday, Oct. 24, from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Discounted lab work and vaccines, fasting labs, CBC, CMC and Lipid Panel: $20. PSA (Prostate cancer-men): $10. Pneumonia and shingles shot: $10. Flu shots available. Vendors and refreshments.

A Revival will be held at Lizemores United Methodist Church on October 2-7,  at 7 p.m. each night, with Evangelist Audie Murphy Sr. Special Singing Nightly. Everyone Welcome

The Braxton County Soccer Club will hold  their Annual Meeting on Sunday, December 4, at 3 p.m. at the Sutton Community Building  (Date, Time and Location are subject to change).  All members of the club are welcome and encouraged to attend. We will be voting on by-laws amendments, reviewing the financial status and audit report, as well as voting in the following officers: Vice President, Secretary and League Rep for a two-year term and filling the empty positions of Registrar and Referee Coordinator for the remaining year of the unexpired terms. Per the clubs by-laws anyone wishing to run for a position on the Board must announce their intentions in writing and send to the Secretary by no latter then November 4, 2016.  This allows job descriptions and ballots to be printed and handed out.  If you have any questions about these positions or would like more information about what serving on the board would entail please contact the board president via email at president@braxtonsoccer.org or via phone at 304-644-9173.

Monday after-school tutoring takes place every Monday at the Lizemores Church of the Nazarene from 4-6 p.m. Students who need help with homework or extra skills practice can come by Lizemores Nazarene and be assisted by teachers and other volunteers. A light snack will be served. Please ensure that all participating students have something to work on.

The Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) is a supplemental foods program for pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women, infants and children, under the age of 5. WIC provides supplemental foods and nutrition education to qualifying participants. To apply for the WIC program or to receive more information call: 304-587-2323. October Schedule: The Clay County WIC Office located at 452 Main Street in Clay is open to serve the public every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. The office will be closed Monday, October 10, in observance of Columbus Day.

LVFD BINGO – Every Tuesday evening at the Lizemore Firehouse, 6pm!

Clay County High School Career and Technical Center will be teaching a beginning welding class starting Sept 27 at 6 p.m. The class will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings through Nov. 17. Students will receive instruction and hands on training in basic welding safety, oxy-acetylene, arc and mig welding. There may be a small fee to cover materials used during class.  For more information please contact the CTE center at 304-587-4743.

The CAEZ Board of Directors meetings will be held at the Clay County Courthouse, at 6:00 pm on the following dates: Tuesday, November 01, 2016, Tuesday, December 06, 2016, Everyone Welcome!!
