During the month of September, all students entering Clay County Schools for the first time will be screened for vision, speech, hearing, language and developmental levels. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Section will sponsor a hunter education course at H.E. White Elementary School on Sept. 24, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sept. 25 from 1-7 p.m. This is a mandatory training for anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1975 prior to purchasing a base hunting license for West Virginia. Students must bring the last four digits of their social security number. These classes are offered free and all of the materials are provided. Preregistration is required. Clay County High School Career and Technical Center will be teaching a beginning welding class starting Sept 27 at 6 p.m. The class will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings through Nov. 17. Students will receive instruction and hands on training in basic welding safety, oxy-acetylene, arc and mig welding. There may be a small fee to cover materials used during class. The Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) is a supplemental foods program for pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women, infants and children, under the age of five. WIC provides supplemental foods and nutrition education to qualifying participants. The West Virginia department of environmental protection and Fola Coal Company LLC (Fola) have proposed a settlement of a consent order which resolves violation(s) of the West Virginia water pollution control act. The annual 1954 Clay County High School Class Reunion will be held at Nancy’s Restaurant, located at the intersection of Rt. 4 and Rt. 16, Maysel, WV on September 14, 2016 at 3 p.m.
The 1961 graduating class of Clay County High School will hold its 55th Class Reunion on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Clay County High School in the band room beginning at 3:00pm until 8:00pm. The Class of 1962 will break for dinner at 5:00pm in the cafeteria. The dinner is sponsored by the Clay County Bank and in conjunction with the Clay County High School and widen High School alumni Gathering.
