Destil Holcomb and Grova Loucille Harvey Holcomb will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year on July 17, 2015. Destil is the son of the late Alfred and Flora Bird Holcomb of Lizemore, and Grova is the daughter of the late Willie Cecil and Ruby Loucille Foster Harvey also of Lizemore, West Virginia and was also the step-daughter of the late Cecil Pritt. They were married in Clay County West Virginia on July 17, 1965 where they were both born and raised. Their first date was to a drive in movie theatre. Grova remembers hearing the song, “the last date” on the radio, but can’t remember the movie. She does remember that her mama would only let her go if she was chaperoned by her late brother, Cecil Eugene Harvey.
They have lived and raised their eight children in Georgia most of their lives, but still refer to West Virginia as “home”. They have lived on St. Simons Island for the last forty years. They have eight children who adore them, and credit them for working hard and sacrificing all their lives for their family. They have always been mama and daddy of the year to us, and always will be. Their children are Shayne and Debbie Holcomb Purvis of Douglas, Georgia; Timmy Holcomb of Hortense, Georgia; Bonnie Holcomb Tuttle, Connie Holcomb Davis, Tony Holcomb all of Brunswick, Georgia. Shane & Pam Diestel Holcomb of Blythe Island, Georgia; James & Sarah Bluestein Holcomb of Dallas, Georgia; and Nick & Crystal Graham of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Their grandchildren listed in order (hopefully) by their ages: Buddy & Jordan Watkins of Alma, Georgia; Philip & Christine Patterson of Germany, Timothy Holcomb of Hortense Georgia, Ashley Laine Purvis of Mobile, Alabama, Paul& Kristin Holcomb of Ludowici, Georgia, Mitchell Tuttle of Athens, Georgia, Aleah Davis of Brunswick, Georgia, Chelsea Holcomb of Reading, Pennsylvania; Wendy Holcomb of Hortense, Georgia. Ragan Holcomb of Blythe
Island, Georgia, Allie Tuttle of Brunswick, Georgia; Riley Holcomb of Blythe Island, Georgia; Kenleigh and Grayson Holcomb of Dallas, Georgia and Aiden and Elissa Graham of Honolulu, Hawaii. They have two great-grandchildren (so far), Khloe Patterson of Germany, and Brayton Holcomb of Reading, Pennsylvania.
They will celebrate at Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church in Lizemore, West Virginia on July 19, 2015. Please join us in celebrating this wonderful milestone and wishing them all the happiness in the world, and many more wonderful anniversaries.
