We met again, one more time, for the 46th Annual Hagar Grade School reunion on August 31, 2013. The reunion was held at Bethel ME Church fellowship hall, located just below where the old school once stood.
There were fewer of us this time, as each passing year takes its toll on the remaining former students. It was a loving, compatible group who enjoyed meeting old friends, and reminiscing over long-ago memories. Food was prepared by the ladies of the community, and was delicious. We want to thank Mrs. Frances White who has been so faithful to oversee this event, and works hard throughout the year to make this a success.
Those attending were: Jerry (Dink) and Bonnie (King) White of Ovapa. (Bonnie also does more than her share of helping Frances prepare for this event.)
Clyde Salyers and Dorma Walls came from Reed Fork, Phyllis Samples came from Procious, and Richard (Lip) and Frances White from Ovapa.
We were glad to see Sarah May (Donohue) of Elkview, and also Mary Wells. Mabel (Payne) Cimino drove from Rochester, NY to be with us, although we missed Lorna (Payne) and Wade Burnside. Owen Parks of Clendenin attended, as well as his sister, Dovie (Parks) Starcher of Walton. Harland “Doc” Walls and his sister, Jane (Walls) Legg of Hartland were there, as well as Sarah Jackson. Mary (King) Samples of Rush Fork and her brother James (Windy) King of Ovapa were there, as well as Alyce Faye (O’Dell) and Criss Bragg, and Jeuell Beth (Everson) Igo, all of Ovapa.
Jerry Samples came from Orangeburg, SC, Bob Thomas from Belle, and Sylvia (Brown) Summers from Ovapa. We were glad to see Guy Braley, who at 97 was clearly the oldest former student there. Patsy Garrett (daughter of the late Hattie (Belcher) Garrett attended, Mildred Summers of Ovapa was there, and Beulah (Bullard) White came from Bomont.
Also attending were Tawney and Linda (White) Boggs of Rupert, and Michael and Peggy (White) Bragg of Leon. They brought their son David’s children, Lexi and Dorian Bragg. Wanita Oxley came from Clay, and Charlotte (Summers) Jett came from Maysel along with Sharon Rose.
It is possible that we omitted some names, as everyone didn’t sign the book. If so, we are sorry. We appreciate each one who came, and hope to see you again next year. God bless each one.
