Morgan McMinn, STEM ambassador held another science experiment activity at the pool on Monday, July 6, 2015. This experiment was to learn about the kinetic and potential energy in rubber bands. Potential energy is the stored energy in a rubber band and kinetic energy is the energy in motion. The children used Popsicle sticks, rubber bands and a spoon to make a catapult to be able to shoot marshmallows. As the children were making their catapults, they had to stretch the rubber bands to wrap around the Popsicle sticks, they learned how the rubber bands stretch and some slipped and shot across the table and the children got to see the kinetic energy in the rubber bands in action. Ms. McMinn will be at the pool two more times this summer to have experiments for the children. Originally she was scheduled to be at the pool on Mondays, but scheduling had to be changed and the will be at the pool on Friday, July 31, 2015 and Friday, August 7, 2015 and will start at promptly 1:00PM. Come out and let your kids enjoy these activities and learn while having fun!
