State Chess Championship coming to Nicholas County

The 79th annual WV State Chess Championship will be held in Nicholas County for the first time. The event will be held at the Shall We Dance Ballroom in Mount Nebo on Sept. 9-10, starting at 9 a.m. Players will compete for the title of WV State Champion and up to $1,450 in prizes.

The event is open to all members of the US Chess Federation and WV Chess Association (memberships available onsite). A tournament announcement and entry form can be found at http://www.wvchess.org/299. Interested players can contact tournament director Benjamin Good at 304-476-5402 or email sectreas@wvchess.org.

The WVCA was founded in 1941 to foster and promote chess activity in the state of West Virginia. The WVCA is the state affiliate of the US Chess Federation for West Virginia.
