WWII Veteran Roy James Grose of Procious celebrated 100th birthday on Wednesday, March 10. Looking back over the last century, he has a lot to celebrate.
Mr. Grose grew up in Clay County and has one daughter, Jo Bauman, and one granddaughter, Jama Whiittaker. He has two great-grandchildren, Amanda Mattix and Cole Whittaker, and three great-great grandchildren, Gabe Mattix, Lucy Mattix, and Hollyn Whittaker.

Mr. Grose served on a submarine chaser, or subchaser, in the Philippines and on the PC509 through Panama and Guantanamo Bay. He has a passion for hunting and has enjoyed many hunting trips with his father, Jesse Grose. He is a member of Liberty Advent Christian Church, where he taught Sunday school for 70 years, but unfortunately he hasn’t been able to attend recently.
The family celebrated this special occasion with a small gathering and cake. They would like to send a special thanks to his caregiver, Elisabeth Samples, for all her daily support.
Happy Birthday Mr. Grose!
