Torrential rain swept through the area this past week which causes homes to flood, power outages, landsides, and other damage. The ground was so saturated that several roads gave way, leaving many with longer than usual commutes.
At Procious the road was shut completely down due to a slip that took more than half of the main road. This is a beneficial roadway that is the only access between Clay and Clendenin, other than a more than an hour detour via interstate. Commuting to and from work has become a stressful and daunting task, leaving the ones who use this roadway for their means of transportation frustrated.
Road closed signs were placed until the DOH could assess the damage and ensure the one lane that was still intact was safely passable. Stop lights to alternate traffic were installed as crews start the repairs. The DOH wants to reassure the public that the road will now remain open to small traffic while these repairs are being made.
