Each spring, many in the community look forward to eating fresh foods. Fresh ramps are a huge favorite among many, although not a favorite for everyone, due to their distinct smell.
Some eat them freshly cleaned, some eat them cooked, some eat them only if they are cooked with other things such as fried potatoes, beans, eggs, or in casseroles, as well as many other options I am sure I am unaware of.
H.E. White has a yearly ramp dinner that is a huge hit throughout the community and the county. This year, for the first time ever, they ran out of ramps! Even though there were several hundred to probably a thousand ramps that were dug, cleaned and prepared for the dinner, they were a big hit this year.
This would not be possible without the help of so many volunteers. From digging the ramps, to cleaning them, to cooking all of the delicious food and the preparation needed for the dinner, volunteers who enjoy helping out with this event each year are appreciated very much.
