This weekend was full of football showdowns for the Clay County Panthers Intermediate Football (CCPIF) teams.
All three football teams, A, B, and C team, made it to the first round of playoffs. The Panthers A-team finished third in the South with a record of 3-3 in regular season play. They played St. Mary’s, ranked second, on Saturday night under the lights in Wirt County. Panthers walked away victorious with a final score of 19-14 against the Blue Devils, putting them at 4-3 and advancing to the second round next weekend.
On Sunday morning the Panthers B and C Team traveled to Dodridge county to fight for a win. C team, coming in with a record of 2-4 and fourth in the South, took on the Frontier Cougars for a chance to advance. The little panthers fell short with a final score of 40-0 putting them at 2-5 for the season.
On Sunday evening the Panther B-team was ready to take the field against the Williamstown Little Stingers for a chance to advance to the second round of playoffs. The B team finished up regular season play with a record of 5-1, coming in second in the South. Panthers were victorious over the Stingers with a final score of 31-6, putting them at 6-1 for the season. B team will play Ravenswood on Saturday.
