Collin Elliott and John Paxton received All Conference and Canaan Payton received All Tournament.

By Allen Hamrick

The Mustangs have gone into the CCMS history books with a great season.  The boys made it happen by defeating Webster County Middle School in the first game of the CWVAC tournament this past week. It was a close game that left no nails on your fingers. It was a tough road against one of the toughest opponents that middle schools could have put on the courts.  It was a game that went bucket for bucket and defense for defense.  The Mustangs came out and started slow but got their game on track quickly.  In the end, it was the Mustangs over the Highlanders 50-49.  This sent the boys to the final four, a place they haven’t been since 2017.  They were pitted against George Washington in the first round of the finals and couldn’t get the game going their way.

After losing that match, they were up against Wahama Middle School, and it was another tough outing for the Mustangs.  In the end, the Mustangs placed 4th and were 2nd in the Eastern Conference. Collin Elliott and John Paxton were recognized as All Conference players and Canaan Payton was recognized as All Tournament player.    These are a fine bunch of boys who had each other’s backs all season.  From JV to Varsity, they stood their ground for each other, and that is why they made it as far in the season as they did.  Each player on the team played a part in the success.  The coaches led this team to be the best they could be and instilled in them a desire to win and to stay focused.  These traits will help them succeed in whatever their lives lead them to.   Once again, congratulations to the Mustangs – it was an awesome year.
