The Mustangs were also at home this week, and it was for more than just basketball. This was homecoming week where the 2026 Basketball Homecoming Queen would be crowned. The Mustangs butted heads with the Calhoun Middle Red Devils in what turned out to be a rough basketball game. It was an all-out Madison Square Garden in your face fight every second of the game. They hit the floor running and pounding. You might as well have thrown out the playbook because it was grab the ball and shoot generally through about six arms with at least four of them holding you down.
Under the boards was a rough place to be for rebounds; unless you ate your Wheaties, the middle was no man’s land. Points were fought hard for, and the easy layups were missed. Each team had opportunities at the net but couldn’t capitalize. However, the Mustangs kept the lead most all the game as they grounded and pounded their way to a win. If you like all out basketball, this would have been the game not to miss. As the seconds ticked off, the boys got better acquainted with their game plan and worked the courts the way they needed to. In the end, the boys scored at will and the game ended with the score of Mustangs 37 Red Devils 24. A double bubba cheeseburger goes out to the Mustangs for hanging in the ring and pulling out the win. The boys will have back-to-back home games this week against Geary on Monday night and South Harrison on Tuesday night.
This night wasn’t all about basketball; it was royalty night as the newly appointed queen and her entourage graced the floor. This year’s Basketball Homecoming queen was Maddison Gray escorted by Trenton Parker. She is the daughter of Butch and Jackie Gray of Wallback and plans on being a NICU nurse. Her court consisted of 6th grade princess Josie Frame escorted by Deric Cunningham, 7th grade princess Sariah Dozer escorted by Chris Elswick and 8th grade princess Tara Conley escorted by Colten Morris. Congratulations to Queen Madison and her court.
