Collin Elliot looks for running room.

By Allen Hamrick

The CCMS Mustangs opened their season Thursday night at home against George Washington Middle.  The meeting between these two teams will always bring out the best in each team, and that fact will always give the fans some good, all-out football action.  This meeting was a defensive battle from the start; neither team was able to move the ball offensively with any consistency.   The Mustangs were on the board first scoring six points. Caleb Robinson and Collin Elliot exploited the openings in the Devil defense. After several run attempts, they broke loose and ran the ball, getting much needed yards.  The Mustang defense shut GW down the first half with some great backfield tackling.  The Mustangs scored again before the half, and the score stood at 12-0 Mustangs in the first half.

Once halftime was over, it was all defense on both sides of the ball, and there was no holding back.  If you like a defensive confrontation, then this would have been a block party.  There was no way that the Mustangs would lose this game, and their defense made it happen.  The Mustang defense held strong but gave up one Christmas present for six points, holding the Blue Devils to just one TD.  The game ended with the Mustangs on top by the score of 12-6.  The Mustangs will be back on their home grid this Thursday evening at 6 PM to take on Sherman Middle. It should be a good game, and the Mustangs will have to bring their A game defensively and offensively to win..
